The simple story is he came in helped us finish Jimmy’s record and played some shows. From Day one, it was never going to be “Avenged Sevenfold featuring Mike Portnoy”. Truthfully, we weren’t even going to tour until he graciously offered himself, We hadn’t even thought about it. I remember we talked about drummer tryouts and I just burst out crying at the idea. It was too raw. When Mike offered his help, he was ideal but the agreement was always temporary.
